Cannabis Growing Competition to Judge Colorado-based Growers on the Terpene Content, Yield and Potency of Plant

DAVIS, Calif., June 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Marrone Bio Innovations, Inc. (NASDAQ:MBII) (MBI), a leading provider of bio-based pest management and plant health products for the agriculture, turf and ornamental and water treatment markets, is pleased to announced that it is a co-sponsor of “The Grow Off”, a prominent Colorado cannabis growing competition, currently in progress, which will be finalized in August, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.

The Grow Off is a science-based competition that awards prizes to cannabis growers in three categories: terpene content, yield and potency.  To maintain the integrity of the competition, testing to calculate the results is conducted entirely by third party labs. In addition to the competition, the event serves as a valuable platform for growers to interact with each other and share insight about their plant health and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs.

“I truly admire the integrity of The Grow Off and am impressed by the care, professionalism and pride that these growers have in their operations, both large and small. We at MBI fully support growers and the broader cannabis industry, and as a part of these initiatives, we are providing growers with IPM educational materials such as articles, videos and other references to enable better identification and management of pests using MBI’s highly effective suite of products,” said Lisa Malabad, Cannabis Segment Lead.

The Grow Off serves as a valuable venue and opportunity for MBI to interact with leading growers in Colorado and listen to their concerns, understand their IPM programs and learn about the biggest opportunities and challenges currently facing the industry.   To date, MBI has determined the following:

  • Pest management is critical to maintain the health and viability of a cannabis crop.
  • Mites, powdery mildew and aphids are key problems that will wipe out a crop if not kept in check.
  • Many growers that are already using MBI products are extremely satisfied with the results, while others are interested in trying MBI products but have not yet done so.
  • Shared education in the industry is widely needed.

Nicki Shepherd, Commercial Sales Manager of Crop Supply/Way to Grow, a co-sponsor of The Grow Off, said, “We are excited to partner with a leading science-based firm such as Marrone Bio, which we believe represents the future of crop protection with their sustainable and organic approach to pest management for cultivators, from small to commercial size gardens. We look forward to carrying a suite of MBI products at our locations in Colorado, with future plans to carry them in our California locations once all registrations are in place.”

Samantha Taylor, Co-founder of The Grow Off said, “The Grow-Off team is thrilled to partner with MBI to address the pest management needs of our grower base. With so many harmful pesticides on the market, it is paramount that cannabis cultivators have access to safe and effective pest management options, such as those offered by MBI, to tackle the wide variety of issues that today’s growers face.”  ‌
